U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (Retired) · Author · Crestview Resident
Alan L. Sampson joined the U.S. Army in 1972, shortly after turning 17. He served for 22 years and retired in 1994 as a Sergeant First Class. During his military career, he served in Germany, Hawaii, and across the United States, working with infantry and armor units and supporting training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. He also attended Ranger School at age 33.
After the Army, Alan worked in Florida corrections and later spent about 12 years delivering pizzas. Along the way, he continued helping and mentoring people, encouraging education, and supporting young adults.
Alan has lived in Crestview, Florida, since 1995. He became involved in local issues, public records, and government accountability. He ran for mayor of Crestview in 2011–2012, with civilian oversight of the police department being one of his concerns.
His interest in justice and accountability eventually led him to write Crazy Joey: The Most Corrupt Cop in America. The book grew from years of research into former Crestview police major Joseph E. Floyd’s case. Alan examined court records, transcripts, trial material, public records, and news reports to understand what happened and how the system responded.
Alan writes from the perspective of a retired soldier, former corrections worker, husband, father, and longtime Crestview resident. His goal is to present the facts, raise questions about accountability, and give readers something to think about.
At 71, Alan is still writing and working on One Last Hill, his autobiography about his life, military service, family, and the experiences that shaped him.
His philosophy is simple: “No Guts, No Glory.” And, after all these years, “STILL SERVING.”
Crazy Joey: The Most Corrupt Cop in America serves as an exposé of the worst kind of police corruption and abuse. It sheds light on the dark side of law enforcement that is often hidden from the public eye.
